About Getting Rough:The next sizzling novel of C. L. Parker’s Monkey Business Trio—perfect for fans of Bared to You and Beautiful Bastard
Hotshot San Diego sports agent Shaw Matthews and his sexy professional adversary Cassidy Whalen have gone head-to-head in the boardroom—and the bedroom. Now Shaw has scored a big promotion—but only because Cassidy turned it down and ran off.
There are many things he wants when it comes to Cassidy—just not her pity. So Shaw rushes to a small town in Maine to retrieve his dignity—and maybe the woman he’s hungry to claim once more.
Cassidy has pushed herself to the max to realize her career dreams—until a family crisis brings her home. But Shaw isn’t letting Cassidy go that easily. Neither is gorgeous heartthrob Casey Michaels, the childhood sweetheart she left behind—and who now wants to win her back.
As the rivalry between the two alpha males intensifies, and Shaw’s seductive moves reach a whole new level of heat, Cassidy has to make a choice. And this time, it’s for the highest stakes of all.
The 2 most important things about this book:
- There’s another cliffhanger at the end, and it’s just as painful / frustrating as the last one.
- There’s also a Grease reference, which makes everything okay, because Grease is the word.
Authors, if you’re going to give me a cliffhanger, peppering it with showtune lyrics will make me not care. (Although it did stir up some of the nerves I have about this weekend’s Grease Live – I want it to be good! But what if it isn’t?)
You know how some people say to deliver bad news with food (this might’ve only been with Joey on Friends, now that I think about it…)? With me, you deliver it with jazz hands.
This book was waaay different than the first, but not in a good or bad way, just different.
Playing Dirty focused mostly on the professional aspects of Shaw and Cassidy starting a relationship, and discovering the physical chemistry. Now that they’re in Cassidy’s hometown and away from work, and the physical chemistry has been firmly established, 😉 they’re trying to figure out the emotional and mental stuff.
The chemistry between them is different – not always trying to hide emotion anymore – in a better way.
And especially with Cassidy’s ex thrown in the mix, that makes for a pretty interesting story.
Cassidy got really annoying though, getting a little “I don’t want you but no one else can have you” with said ex.
But the steam and chemistry was still there, and with Shaw and Cassidy heading back to work with another twist thrown in (hey, cliffhanger), I can’t not read the next book. 🙂
About C.L. Parker:
C.L. Parker is a romance author who writes stories that sizzle. She’s a small-town girl with big-city dreams and enough tenacity to see them come to fruition. Having been the outgoing sort for all her life—which translates to “she just wouldn’t shut the hell up”—it’s no wonder Parker eventually turned to writing as a way to let her voice, and those of the people living inside her head, be heard. She loves hard, laughs until it hurts, and lives like there’s no tomorrow. In her world, everything truly does happen for a reason.
