About Beautiful Secret:

New York Times and #1 internationally bestselling author Christina Lauren’s Beautiful and Wild Seasons series hook up in Beautiful Secret for an erotic intercontinental romp that celebrates the best of both worlds!

When Ruby Miller’s boss announces he’s sending her on an extended business trip to New York City, she’s shocked. As one of the best and brightest young engineers in London, she knows she’s professionally up to the task. The part that’s throwing her is where she’ll be spending a month up close and personal working alongside—and staying in a hotel with—Niall Stella, her firm’s top urban planning executive and The Hottest Man Alive. Despite her ongoing crush, Ruby is certain Niall barely knows she’s alive…until their flirty overnight flight makes him sit up and take notice.

Not one for letting loose and breaking rules, recently divorced Niall would describe himself as hopeless when it comes to women. But even he knows outgoing California-girl Ruby is a breath of fresh air. Once she makes it her mission to help the sexy Brit loosen his tie, there’s no turning back. Thousands of miles from London, it’s easy for the lovers to play pretend. But when the trip is over, will the relationship they’ve built up fall down?

My Review:

Hold on tight, girls. This review’s gonna be a long one (for me).

Praise Jesus, praise Moses, praise every deity ever for the Stella family. I mean, for real. I’m going to peer pressure Christina and Lauren into writing books for all of the siblings. Through the power of my mind, obviously, since I don’t know them (yet…).

I also loved how full-circle Beautiful Secret brought the Beautiful Bastard series. Another irresistible intern and fussy boss. But one of the things I love about Christina Lauren is that they can take a premise that’s been done before and make it feel so original, so fun, and so hot. But this full-circledom also makes me extremely sad, because…does that mean it’s really the end this time? I need more (Hanna and Will specifically *cough cough*)!!!

And now, onto the deets. First of all, my Niall?

Aaaand…I just lost my whole review. It was like 400 words, too. And I have no idea why It’s not in my revision history. Crap. Let’s see if I remember it…

So at the beginning of the book I totally decided Niall was the definition of “unattainable looks, approachable personality.” There’s something about this kind of guy that’s so perfect. They’re not the generic book boyfriend who’s the definition of “perfect” in every way: looks, personality, confidence. He’s flawed. He’s nervous. He’s self-deprecating. And it’s adorable. And it makes him seem more attainable than most book boyfriends.

It’s kind of like Hugh Grant. Let’s think about how much we (and the media) have forgiven him for. He’s damn flawed. But he holds a press conference to apologize and he’s so nervous and mumbling that we just go “awwww, it’s okay.”

And Ruby, now Ruby. First of all, how awesome is her name? I love it. Now, her pining. Normally, a character pining over their boss could be annoying, just like with any love from afar in fiction. But hers…hers was dirty. And that’s the best kind! 😉

I totally loved it. I mean, the book’s opening sentence? Here it is:

“I’m not saying his cock is massive but I’m not not saying it, either.”

So this technically isn’t Ruby speaking, but this conversation with her friend and coworker is the kind of pining she’s doing. It’s so classic of a Christina Lauren character, and I love it.

But then at the same time, her feelings were also so raw and real once they started working with each other. Their friendship, connection, whatever you want to call it before anything physical was so enjoyable.

I’m glad to continue my streak of absolutely loving Christina Lauren books. Frequent Bumblings readers know that I always try to point out at least one thing I didn’t love, even in five star reviews. But this might literally be the first one where I don’t mention anything negative, unless you count the fact that right now it’s the last in this series. Quite possibly my favorite series ever.

  1. Too bad about losing your review. I have to tell ya though I stopped reading after the first 2 paragraphs and added to my wish list. I didn’t need/want to know anymore about book before reading said book. Your reviews are roping me into a new genre. Lol
