Review: Grin and Beard It by Penny Reid

Review: I started this book a little nervously, since while I like the Winston brothers series, they don’t hold a candle to the Knitting in the City series. It just goes back to needing to relate to books and not being too interested in small-town, low-tech mountain life. But Sienna made up for everything I “less than love” about the rest of the series. Girl is LIT. The chapters from her point of view – that shit I could read forever. It’s not just that she’s hilarious (which she is), it’s also my exact brand of humor. Five-year-old kid potty […]

Review + Excerpt: The Player and the Pixie by L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid

Hey everyone! Today I’m doing something I haven’t done in a long time: a blog tour. And since I’ve read the book by now as well, scroll down for that review. Excerpt: I DIDN’T KNOW what I was doing. Requests, things I wanted, words I would never speak or allow myself to think were now uncontainable. It’s the sex, I reiterated. Again. I’d used this explanation, now on repeat, as a simple justification for the complex cacophony of my mind. “Be with you?” Her long, dark lashes fluttered, beating like distressed butterfly wings against warming pink cheeks. I licked my […]

Review: Happily Ever Ninja by Penny Reid

Review: One thing I really love about this book is that I feel weird calling it a romance. Is it about a romantic relationship? Yes. But is it about the romantic aspects of that relationship? Not usually. It’s about all the other stuff, the messy stuff that you don’t get in romances because it makes the fairytale less perfect. And I’m all for the fairy tale. I actually still prefer that over realistic any day. But it was a cool change of pace to add in now and then. This was about the passive aggressive arguing, the aggressive arguing, the sadness, […]

Review: Ninja at First Sight by Penny Reid

Review: So, this happened last week: @bberg1010 #NoRegrets — Penny Reid (@ReidRomance) November 17, 2015 And it was really bad, because it was days until I could actually finish because of work and shiz and stuff and more shiz. I had to avoid the Facebook fan group, not because of spoilers but because of reactions I’d be jealous of. But that was the cool thing about this novella, and my lack of overall memory: even though I read a portion of it a year ago, it felt like new. Last year’s version was a shorter story. And when someone with a bad […]

Review + Giveaway: Truth or Beard by Penny Reid

Truth or Beard Review: Okay, so I think it’s pretty normal and expected to fall in love with the hero of a romance novel. I mean, that’s what I always do. Even if it’s not an endless, everlasting love, 99.9% of the time, my hero is the favorite guy in the book. Sorry, Duane. You’re the 0.1%. You’re not even a whole! Poor Duane. I do love you, I do. Just not as much as Cletus. I fell in love with Cletus more than Duane in #TruthOrBeard. Click To Tweet Cletus walks into a convenience store looking for something fairly normal and walks […]

Review: Capture by Penny Reid

Review: As we know, I usually don’t love the last book in a series. Because most of the time, all they do is conclude the series. The sole focus of the book is on tying up loose ends and stuff like that. Capture definitely wasn’t like that – the plot moves forward a lot before it gets wrapped up in a pretty bow. I loved how much both Katy and Martin grew in this series. So often in this genre, we romanticize relationships that frankly don’t bring out a character’s best traits. It’s refreshing to see a relationship that, for the most […]

Review: Heat by Penny Reid

Review: This one was probably my favorite of the trilogy! You see Kaitlyn and Martin really well in Heat – the good and the bad. And the ebb and flow of it all is the perfect pace for a novella. It’s a fast pace that I normally dislike with longer books, but works really well here. Plus, can I get a hot damn at the action in this one? Hell yeah. Very, very nice. And the fact that they were on vacation made the constant action a lot more realistic than your average “sex five times a day” romance novel. […]

Revew: Attraction by Penny Reid

My Review: So I’m going to start trying something new for novellas/serials. Bulleted lists. I always write these as soon as I finish a book, to help me write my review. But developing the bullets into paragraphs and things like that usually doubles the length of the review. When a book is so short in the first place, that feels kind of silly. So, here are my thoughts: There’s something really awesome about a Penny Reid book you can read in one sitting. It means I know I’ll be able to reread it as much as I want. There have […]

Review: The Hooker and the Hermit by L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid

My Review: If someone told me I would meet a character, even one that Penny Reid helped create, that I had a bigger girl crush on than I do for various members of “that infamous knitting group” from the Knitting in the City series, I would have called you cray cray. Even with all the other characters my favorite authors write, I love them in a different, less girl crushy way than I do with the knitting ladies. But that was before Annie Catrel. (B.A.C., for future reference. Not to be confused with blood-alcohol concentration.) I loved her so hard, and […]

Review: Scenes from the City by Penny Reid

Review: I’m deducting a star because DAMN YOU PENNY REID, YOU SCENE-TEASE, YOU. I. want. more. And I’m blaming you for these frustration and deprivation feels. The real review starts now. Merry festivus for the rest of us! Penny celebrates festivus, pole and all (okay, I’m not sure about the pole, and this sounds dirty if you’re not a Seinfeld fan). Instead of airing her grievances this year, she wrote us some presents. Scenes from the City gives us a little tease of life after the HEA for each of the knitting group girl’s we’ve already read about. Each one is […]
