I’m so excited to bring you Book Bumbling’s first guest post today! As part of Forked’s blog tour, Melanie Harlow is here today. 🙂
Since ’tis the season for year-end wrap-ups, Melanie is talking about her favorite books of the year, and why she loved them.
Top Five Books I Read This Year
1. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
2. Her Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty
The top two spots have to go to Liane Moriarty. I read Big Little Lies in about two days on vacation this August and gobbled up Her Husband’s Secret right after that. The characterization is brilliant and Moriarty has mad plotting skills. Both books are smart, funny, and heartbreaking at the same time.
3. The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes
I don’t read much literary fiction these days, but holy crap I’m glad my dad recommended it to me. It’s elegantly written, but playful too. Nothing pretentious whatsoever. Almost reminded me of Salinger. I’m not one to highlight in my Kindle, but practically this entire book is yellow now. I want that guy’s brain.
4. The Awakening of Ivy Leavold by Sierra Simone
I love me some sexy historical, and this one made me blush like mad. Haunting setting, twisty mystery, gorgeous clothing, beautiful writing, and a dirty talking alpha who’s filthy rich and filthier-minded. Even if you don’t normally read historical, pick this up.
5. Rusty Nailed by Alice Clayton
Alice Clayton is my hero. She writes smart, funny books with relatable characters. I like an alpha billionaire are much as the next reader, but give me a sexy photographer or librarian any day. Real men are awesome! (And real women. Love her ladies too.)
