About Capture:

One week.

Manhattan apartment.

Super-hot ex-boyfriend.

…What’s the worst that could happen?

It’s been nine months since Kaitlyn Parker has seen or heard from Martin Sandeke—nine months and five stages of matter. She’s lived through the worst of first-love heartbreak, and is most certainly stronger (and less likely to hide in science cabinets) than ever before.

But now Martin is back. And he wants to be friends. But he’s sending mixed signals to the Bunsen burner in Kaitlyn’s pants.

Will Martin re-capture Kaitlyn’s heart? Can Kaitlyn and Martin ever be just friends? Or, despite an abundance of chemistry, are some bonds just too unstable to endure?

Review:

As we know, I usually don’t love the last book in a series. Because most of the time, all they do is conclude the series. The sole focus of the book is on tying up loose ends and stuff like that. Capture definitely wasn’t like that – the plot moves forward a lot before it gets wrapped up in a pretty bow.

I loved how much both Katy and Martin grew in this series. So often in this genre, we romanticize relationships that frankly don’t bring out a character’s best traits. It’s refreshing to see a relationship that, for the most part, makes the characters better people.

And Katy’s realizations? They hit home. I remember realizing the same thing, when I was around the same age as her. But instead of being in a closet, my hideout of choice was under a fuzzy blanket. I love fuzzy blankets.

Now I’m going to admit something I was nervous to thus far: I never really liked Martin. I didn’t want to put it out there in writing in case he redeemed himself in the end. If I ended up falling in love with him, I didn’t want that on the record. 😛

And yeah, he’s leaps and bounds of a better person than he apparently was before the series beginning. But even in the end, he’s semi-tolerable but still pretty douchey. I liked him in the steamy scenes 😉 , but that was mostly it.

Also, it finally hit me who Katy’s mom reminds me of: Marlene Griggs Knope. How Marlene loves Leslie but just doesn’t know how to be a mom instead of a politician. Bingo!

About Penny Reid:

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
