About Alex:

Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.

As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

My Review:

alex quote 1Recommended for: hockey fans, people who can love a jackass

Oh, Alex. I love you. (This really rolls off my tongue easily…guess what my boyfriend’s name is? I loved telling him that he had another Alex to compete with for my heart.)

One thing I love about all of Sawyer Bennett’s book is the balance between emotional and lighthearted. Some authors switch back and forth so drastically that it gives you whiplash; others stick too much to one or the other. But Sawyer is always able to intertwine them so well. Instead of saying, “This chapter will be funny and the next one will be sad,” she’s able to give us both at the same time, one the same page.

I also loved seeing two people from very similar backgrounds, yet dealt with it completely differently. Sutton grew up in an environment with alcohol and abuse and fought it. Not just her own environment, but dedicated herself to helping others in similar situations. Then alex quote 2you have Alex, who kind of succumbed to it. Not enough to repeat the behavior, but enough for it to get to him and get in the way of his happiness.

But the best part? Their romance. I mean, you know you’re in love when it isn’t just your relationship that’s happy…it’s everything. It’s crazy how being in love can do something like make you love a sport you’ve always hated. It just makes everything better, and it’s awesome.

I mean, any guy that takes a cue from Love Actually is clearly worthy of your heart. So cute.

So yeah, fictional Alex, right now you’re my MVAlex and my MVP. Not Most Valuable Prick, but I can think of a few other words. 🙂
